First, remove the old fixture from the wall after turning off all the power which supplies electricity to the existing light. The fixture will have screws which hold it into place. The screws are attached to a bracket which is normally secured to a junction box. Unscrew the fixture screws and pull the base away from the wall. Obviously you will want to remove all light bulbs before removing the base. The wiring should be simple on a 120 volt circuit. A new 200 watt bathroom sconce will work fine with this voltage. Unscrew the wires black from black, white or gray from gray and green from green. Check to make sure your wires are “capped” securely and that the wires are connected correctly. If your wire is older, typically found in older homes, consider replacing the old wire with new 14/2 NMB (or non-metallic, high temperature wire). This wire is relatively inexpensive and can be found at any Home Depot or Lowe’s Home Improvement location.This is a standard method for installing a bathroom scone lighting fixture.
